Every one of us strives for perfectly groomed hands and nails. We dream of soft, smooth skin on our hands, without blemishes or other disfiguring defects. However, we do not always manage to achieve such a perfect care effect. What are the most common hand skin problems and how can we protect it? What home care treatments and preparations do we recommend for the hands?
The skin of the hands has a small amount of sebaceous glands and adipose tissue, so it is easily dried out and ages quickly. It is constantly exposed to external factors such as: high solar radiation, frost. It is also affected by chlorinated water and detergents for washing dishes, bathrooms, etc., which contain corrosive substances. These preparations contain corrosive substances that are extremely harmful to our hands, which are often not covered with rubber gloves.
Hand skin problems
Hand skin dry, rough, itchy, cracking – the cause is usually poor care, such as frequent hand washing and not using a moisturiser or oiling cream afterwards, poorly selected hand product, lack of sun protection and lack of protection against aggressive detergents.
Pigmentation and spots of various origins – are most often the result of UV radiation, but also the result of abnormal changes in the skin pigment (melanin). In the case of hyperpigmentation, in addition to depigmenting cosmetic procedures and the use of appropriately selected dermocosmetic preparations, high sun protection is absolutely recommended.
Excessive sweating – is usually associated with susceptibility to stress. Recommended treatment is pharmacological and through appropriate care.
Common warts (warts) – located usually on the dorsal surfaces of the fingers of the hand. It is a symptom of a skin disease caused by viruses and is treated either pharmacologically or by freezing with carbon dioxide, liquid nitrogen or by electrocoagulation.
Frostbite – caused by low temperatures and slowed blood flow to the extremities. Grade I frostbite manifests as reddening of the skin, swelling and slight pain when the hands begin to be warmed. The redness and hypersensitivity to cold may persist into the future.
Cosmetic treatments for the hands
A basic hand cosmetic treatment consists of the following steps:
- skin peeling
- massage with an oil or regenerating preparation
- application of a preparation with active ingredients or a nourishing mask
- application of a preparation with active ingredients or a nourishing mask
- Paraffin bath
A paraffin bath produces the best results with the prior application of a suitably selected preparation with active ingredients or a mask. During the treatment your hands are dipped twice in paraffin wax, which immediately sets. The beautician then applies foil gloves and wraps them in a towel to retain the heat as long as possible. The wrap is removed after 15-20 minutes, and is often used when a facial treatment is performed at the same time.
Advanced cosmetic treatments applied to the skin of the hands are performed with biostimulation laser, sonophoresis or iontophoresis, or as a peel with cosmetic or medical acids. Different treatment methods may also be used combined into one treatment as a combination therapy.
