Full and firm lips are a more or less hidden dream for many women. Not everyone is ready for an aesthetic medicine procedure such as the use of volumetric fillers. These are invasive procedures and the effect can be exaggerated or unnatural. Can’t we find another gentler way? Can’t we encourage our body to achieve this result by its own efforts? What tasks should be set for it?
Increase collagen and GAG synthesis
Firm lips need to have the right levels of collagen. To make them look full and large – they need to contain filling components, preferably naturally water-binding components such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The question arises how do we mobilise the cells in our mouths to accomplish this task? Research brings us the answer to these questions in the form of biomimetic Lip 3-Peptide (Gorouhi and Maibach 2009). It stimulates the synthesis of collagen and glycosaminoglycans, resulting in increased firmness and increased lip volume. Lip 3-Peptide is a tripeptide that, acting through specific receptors located on fibroblasts, stimulates the synthesis of collagen and GAG. In in vitro studies, collagen synthesis increased by more than 350% within 24 hours and the concentration of newly synthesised glycosaminoglycans by nearly 150%. In a clinical study that evaluated the effects of applying Lip 3-Peptide to the lips over 30 days, this translated into significant improvements. A 29% reduction in wrinkles and a 60% improvement in lip hydration was observed.
Results of the study
The sensory panel study assessed a number of characteristics. All participants felt that there was an improvement in the overall condition of the lips after using the peptide cosmetic. 70% of participants furthermore felt that there was an increase in skin comfort and smoothness of the lips and a protective effect, and 60% felt that there was a reduction in peeling. The change in lip volume was also investigated. 90% of participants confirmed an increase in volume, and a non-contact spectromorphometric study showed that the average increase in lip volume was 40.7% over a 30-day period of use of a product containing the ingredient Lip 3-Peptide.
Mouth treatment
Lip 3-Peptide was used in the professional Lip Volume Serum from the Agemelan Holistic line for photodynamic PDT treatments with LLLT laser. The use of this oligopeptide allows to increase the volume of the lips with a quick “banquet effect” without the risk of risks and pain, while softening and moisturising them. With Lip 3-Peptide, lips become better hydrated, firmer and smoother.
