Pacific green alga Spirulina

Cultivated in Hawaii, Pacific green alga Spirulina (Spirulina Pacifica) is a variety of the alga Spirulina maxima. Thanks to its wealth of ingredients, it is considered one of the “sources of beauty” by the native Hawaiians and is called green gold. It contains proteins, vitamins, minerals and lipids that work to tighten, shape and soothe the skin. It visibly reduces wrinkles, also has a strengthening effect on capillary walls, stabilises the water-lipid balance and evens out colour. It also has immunostimulating, strongly anti-radical and protective properties.

How does the algae mask work?

The mask contains alginate, which has an ‘occlusive effect’ during cosmetic treatments, i.e. it creates a ‘film’ on the skin, which results in a reduction in TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). The mask also opens the pores of the skin and helps the pre-applied active ingredients to penetrate.

Alginate is a powder-like substance with high porosity, obtained from the cell wall of an alga. During treatment, the powder is mixed with water at a temperature of less than 36 degrees Celsius. Mixed with warmer water it would solidify too quickly. A suspension with the consistency of thick cream is formed, which is applied to the face, neck or décolleté, bust. After a few minutes, the suspension thickens so that it can be pulled off as one ‘rubbery’ patch.
