Sdry skin is a skin type, which is shaped by a number of internal and external factors. Sareboth individual characteristics of water balance regulation mechanisms and the skin’s interaction with the external environment. The conditionof dry skin changes at different times of the year, so it is important to develop the bestcare programme for it early on.
Important concept: “physiological cosmetology” is the creation of optimal conditions for the skin with minimal active intervention.
Dry skin care in winter and autumn
In winter, we see very large temperature fluctuations, as there is frost and cold wind outside, and dry and hot air from air conditioning indoors. Such conditions make dry skin even more sensitive and dry. Protection and moisturisation should therefore be more intense at this time of year. So in winter and autumn, choose a cream with a thick consistency, add a rich serum to your skincare routine and apply nourishing masks 1-2 times a week. Regular exfoliation with gentle products such as PHA acids, enzyme scrubs or peptide scrubs – will prepare you for more aggressive peels such as AHA acids.
Dry skin care in spring and summer
Spring and summer are better times for dry skin. However, dry skin has a damaged hydro-lipid barrier, so it should have high sun protection at all times. In addition, skin supplementation with antioxidants is very important in summer. Make sure they are present in your cream. During this period, also apply humectant masks once a week to support the skin when the humidity is high. Once a week, additionally apply a mask to improve microcirculation. This will keep your skin well hydrated while reducing any swelling. Remember that if the room is air-conditioned and the air in the room is very dry then the skin tightens and makes it even drier. Thermal water should only be applied when the ambient humidity is high.

Important tips for dry skin
Following these will help dry skin to function properly. These tips do not depend on the season. They are relevant in winter as well as in summer.
- It is important to cleanse the skin physiologically. Avoid products containing ingredients such as alcohol, alkali, mineral oils and aggressive surfactants (anionic). Choose cosmetics designed for dry skin that contain mild surfactants (amphoteric and non-ionic).
- Beware of products containing clay – it draws moisture from the skin.
- Beware of retinol and its derivatives. They provoke dryness by affecting the production of sebum.
- Consider products that contain retinol.
- Seek products with ceramides, which address deficiencies and defects in the intercellular structure. They reduce both skin hypersensitivity and TEWL – or transepidermal water escape.
- Moisturising agents (such as hyaluronic acid, NMF) should contain occlusive ingredients that will not allow moisture to evaporate (squalane, glycerine, natural waxes).
- Dry skin does not like to be overloaded; choose 2-in-1 products (e.g. a moisturising day cream already with UV protection).
- Substitute aggressive scrubs with products that provide gentle exfoliation – like a peptide scrub.
- Look for antioxidants in the formulation to protect the skin from free radicals (e.g. vitamins C, E, A, magnesium, selenium, plant extracts).
