Rust rose - plants in cosmetics

Rust rose (Rosa rubiginosa), also known as musk rose (Rosa moschata), is a species of shrub belonging to the rose family. It is native to Europe, but has spread throughout the world. The rust rose is also quite common in Poland and belongs to the group of wild roses, reaching a height of up to 2 metres. Its flowers bloom once a year, and their aroma is reminiscent of musk.

How the rose was used in antiquity

Roses were domesticated as ornamental plants around 5,000 years ago in China. The ancient Romans and Greeks decorated banquet halls and tables with their flowers. Roses were also used for beauty care, the production of water, rose oil and perfumes. Plantations of roses whose petals are used to produce rose water and essential oils can be found in Bulgaria, Iran, Iraq, Romania and France. Rosa moschata, on the other hand, is used for the production of essential oils in North Africa and the Middle East.
