Needle-free mesotherapy in the beauty salon

Mesotherapy is one of the most modern methods used in aesthetic dermatology and professional cosmetology. It has a very wide range of applications, both for therapeutic and preventive purposes, i.e. for the elimination of wrinkles, hair loss, reduction of cellulite or stretch marks.

What is the treatment method – mesotherapy?

The word mesotherapy derives from the Greek language, mesos being the middle, and therapeia being the treatment. This method was born in the 1950s by French physician Dr Michel Pistor, who used spot injections of drugs for a variety of conditions. Twenty years later, the method began to be used in aesthetic dermatology.

The mesotherapy procedure involves the direct injection of specially selected mixtures of nutritional substances such as multivitamin complexes, minerals, amino acids and plant extracts into the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The substances are injected repeatedly in very small quantities. Their purpose is to stimulate the cells to regenerate faster, resulting in a lifting, rejuvenating, anti-wrinkle effect. Mesotherapy is also used to treat defects such as obesity, cellulite and hair loss. The treatment can be performed using the needle or needle-free method.

Needle mesotherapy

Needle mesotherapy involves the repeated injection of complexes of active ingredients into the areas of the body to be treated. The treatments may be accompanied by pain and, immediately after the procedure, by erythema and swelling as a reaction of the skin to the pricking. It can also happen that the needle hits a blood vessel, resulting in bruising. ATTENTION needle mesotherapy treatments should only be performed by doctors.

Needleless mesotherapy

An alternative to needle mesotherapy is needle-free mesotherapy. First of all, it is a non-invasive and painless method and the results obtained are similar to a needle treatment. These treatments can be performed in a beauty salon.

Mesotherapy is a combination therapy, i.e. based on the interaction of several types of energy that support and complement each other. The transport of active substances deep into the dermis is made possible by:

  • alternating current using the phenomenon of electroporation
  • current from iontophoresis treatment;
  • direct current from iontophoresis treatment
  • ultrasound waves from a sonophoresis treatment;
  • concurrent from a sonophoresis treatment.

Electroporation

(English: pore = hole) It consists in increasing the permeability of the cell membrane through the local action of short electrical impulses. Under the influence of an electrical impulse, tiny ion channels, called electropores, are created in the cell membrane for a very short time, which allow the transport of active ingredients into the cell. This process is reversible and as safe as possible. It does not damage the cell membrane, but allows the introduction of the relevant substances deep into the skin. Electroporation also works at the level of the stratum corneum. It increases skin permeability, improves diffusion and multiplies transdermal transport of neutral, hydrophilic (water-soluble) and lipophilic (fat-soluble) active substances. The value of the applied electric field determines how many electropores are formed and how long they exist in the cell membrane.

Iontophoresis

It is a physical phenomenon that uses direct current and low and medium frequency pulsed currents. The main route of transport for the ionic active substances is then the appendages of the skin (sweat glands and hair follicles).

The following is an example.

Sonophoresis

Ultrasound acts on the skin by stimulating individual cells. They facilitate the absorption of cosmetic preparations into the skin, also those with a gel structure.

Summary – with needle-free mesotherapy, thanks to appropriately selected parameters of the energy of high-frequency currents and ultrasound, so-called ion channels open up in cell membranes, which facilitates the penetration of active substances deep into the skin. During the treatment, a serum or cocktail – a mixture of active substances – is introduced. The selection of these ingredients depends on the desired effect and the body part treated. The serum or cocktail used should have the right properties, concentration and size of its molecules, as the size of the channels in the cell membranes is limited.

Duration of one treatment session

The duration of one needle-free mesotherapy treatment is approximately 30 minutes. For the skin of the face and décolleté, the effects are visible after just one treatment. However, for treatment of selected body parts (e.g. anti-cellulite), a series of 5-10 treatments is recommended. Treatments are usually performed at 10-14 day intervals.
