Researchers believe that this is only the beginning and there are still many useful substances of marine origin waiting to be discovered. It has been indicated that sugar compounds extracted from algae have anti-ageing effects including inhibition of extracellular matrix metalloproteinases, anti-inflammatory effects and promoting fibroblast proliferation (Fitton et al. 2007). More recent studies indicate that algal extracts containing polysaccharide sulphates and phenolic compounds, show in vitro potent inhibition of enzymes associated with skin ageing and the glycation process. They also have a pronounced effect on UV protection and wrinkle depth reduction (Fitton et al. 2017).
Ephemeral algal cells
But the hopes placed in algae are even greater – the activity of substances extracted from them against the activity of SIRT1 genes involved in important cell cycles and affecting longevity is indicated (Brunt and Burgess 2017). Such activities are offered by the ingredient Ephemer™ contained in the formulations of the rejuvenating Regenevia DNA line. The extracts are extracted from the algae Undaria Pinnatifida, and the formulations have powerful antioxidant effects. The type of substances synthesised by the algae depends on their life cycle and is variable in its different stages. The antioxidants contained in the ingredient Ephemer™ are extracted from algae cultures that are in a particular stage of development.
