Adult acne (Acne Tarda – late-onset acne) affects up to 10% of women. This common condition occurs chronically or sporadically in adult women and men. Factors of onset include hormonal conditions, environmental conditions such as diet, behaviour, rest and genetic conditions. Adult acne occurs mainly on the jawline and on the neck. This is how it differs from acne vulgaris.
This type of acne should be treated systemically. Especially if the client has comorbidities such as overweight, hypertension or thyroid disorders. Very exacerbated lesions mean that a visit to a dermatologist or general practitioner is necessary to check general health.
How to care for skin with adult acne? Cosmetic acids for Acne Tarda
Chemical peels – pyruvic acid, azelaic acid and lactic acid – are good treatments for adult acne. You can find out more in the video below. Remember that when treating with cosmetic acids, it is essential to use creams with high UVA/UVB/IR protection. Ms Katarzyna Piotrowska from the Skintology practice in Tilburg, the Netherlands, talks about the problem.
