We know full well that the skin is the natural barrier that protects our body from external threats. However, shouldn’t the skin be helped in this difficult task? Of course, we support it by wearing the right clothes, headgear or applying sunscreens against UV radiation. The question – can we do it better and more effectively?
Can we create a kind of ‘second skin’? If so, what qualities should it possess to enhance our body’s protection? It is important that it protects us from harmful substances, pollutants and allergens, and additionally mitigates their adverse effects through its antioxidant properties. It is worthwhile for it to additionally smooth out wrinkles. Ideally, our “second skin” should be formed from healthy, natural ingredients.
Protective polysaccharides
Are these just dreams and time to wake up? Not at all – these are the properties and possibilities of polysaccharides, which can be extracted from plants to form ultra-thin but highly mechanically resistant layers. They are perfectly suited as an ingredient in cosmetics with a protective effect (de Melo and Campos, 2019). Examples of such substances include extracts from algae and from the fruit of the Peruvian Tara tree. Algae of the Kappaphycus alvarezii species contain gel-forming polysaccharides, as well as fatty acids, vitamins and flavonoids and phenolic compounds. They have been shown to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and UV-protective effects. At the same time, they are characterised by high mechanical strength (Kanatt et al. 2015). Tara tree fruit extracts have similar film-forming properties (Rigano et al. 2019).
Filmlift Protector – effective skin support
Filmlift Protector is a biomimetic, natural active ingredient with film-forming properties, produced using innovative, patented IBPN® technology. It contains extracts from algae and the Tara tree that form a very thin, but strong, elastic film on the skin made of biopolymers. Filmlift Protector supports the skin with natural glucopolymers acting as a natural barrier to protect the skin from harmful external influences such as PM10 and PM2.5 which are components of smog, allergens, irritants. However, it does not cause occlusion or a mask effect and does not interfere with skin respiration. In addition, Filmlift Protector has lifting properties and the skin tightening effect is immediately noticeable. Its smoothing and anti-wrinkle effects have been proven in a wide variety of formulations and dosages. Filmlift Protector was tested in a study performed on 1,100 volunteers in Europe and Asia, using 5 different doses in 7 different formulations, and the effectiveness was analysed at 14 different times after application. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the protective and lifting action. An improvement in the appearance of the skin was also observed.
Studies of the Filmlift Protector ingredient
The observed effects were dose-dependent, which is in line with the results of studies on Tara tree extracts (Rigano et al. 2019). Filmlift Protector tested at a concentration of 1% reduced the adhesion of dust particles to the skin by 47% (dose-dependent effect). In addition, it showed a similar effect in reducing the penetration of allergens and irritants. The effect was immediate after 15 min and persisted up to 24 hours after application. It was also observed, starting at a concentration of 0.1%, to smooth the skin surface and reduce wrinkles as early as 30 min after a single application in an emulsified gel formulation. The effects lasted for 2 hours and were dose-dependent. Filmlift Protector applied at a concentration of 0.5% in the foundation significantly extended make-up wear as perceived by 100% of test volunteers. After 14 days of application, both evaluators and those using the various formulas containing 0.5% Filmlift Protector felt they were more effective than the placebo formulas, for all scoring criteria and for each formula used.

Lifting and protection with Chantarelle cosmetics
Filmlift Protector safely delivers a range of benefits to the skin, protecting it from external threats and improving its appearance. The dense, double-braided network acts as a natural barrier to protect the skin without a mask-like effect. It gives a natural lifting and smoothing effect and has an anti-ageing effect. Even after the first application, radiant skin, reduced wrinkles and improved contour are visible. This ingredient is therefore used in the lifting treatment Exo Lift Stem Cell Code and in the repairing and protective day cream Plant Plasma.
