HYA-STIM 3-Peptide for strong hydration and skin firming

The ageing of the skin is manifested by a reduction in its firmness and elasticity. One of the main causes of such changes is the degradation of extracellular matrix components such as collagen and hyaluronic acid. This leads to the formation of wrinkles and sagging of the skin. 

 

Properties of hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide from the glycosaminoglycan group. It is an important component of the extracellular matrix and is present in both the epidermis and dermis. It is found as linear molecules with a high molecular weight. Unlike other glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid does not covalently bind to proteins, but interacts with other proteoglycan components. Hyaluronic acid binds water providing elasticity and wrinkle-free skin. Hyaluronic acid is produced in skin cells by the enzymes HAS-1, HAS -2 and HAS-3 and secreted into the intercellular space.

 

How to rebuild hyaluronic acid reserves?

As we age, the content of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases due to the increasing prevalence of its breakdown processes over synthesis, with the result that the skin ceases to be elastic, becomes thinner and wrinkles appear. High-molecular hyaluronic acid does not penetrate the skin, while injected hyaluronic acid is rapidly degraded. Volumetric fillers, such as cross-linked hyaluronic acid, are another solution to counteract the loss of tissue volume and regain firmness. However, if we want to care for the naturally youthful appearance of our skin, instead of supplementing the deficiency of glucosaminoglucans in the skin, it is possible to stimulate its cells to synthesise these compounds more intensively.

 

Stimulation of hyaluronic acid levels

This is the action offered by the HYA-STIM 3-Peptide tripeptide. It is a mimetic peptide towards thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a signal protein that activates the transforming growth factor TGFβ1, leading to an increase in hyaluronic acid synthesis. The result is an increase in skin tissue volume and improved hydration. In an in vitro study conducted on fibroblasts and keratinocytes, the tripeptide was shown to increase the level of hyaluronic acid synthesis, increase the volume of dermal tissue and improve its mechanical properties (Gempeler et al. 2018).

Increase in hyaluronic acid synthesis levels under the influence of different preparations (source: Gempeler et al. 2018 fig3 TestB) In a 56-day clinical study conducted on a group of 33 female volunteers aged 45 to 65 years, an increase in facial skin elasticity and improvement in facial contour was observed. Skin hydration was increased by 12% and mechanical parameters such as firmness (29%) and elasticity (20%) were also improved (Garre et al. 2018). In another study that lasted 29 days and involved 30 women, a product containing HYA-STIM 3-Peptide tripeptide was used (Campiche et al. 2020). The study showed a 56% improvement in the skin’s hyaluronic acid content. At the same time, an increase in skin firmness was observed. Other effects noted were volume changes below the eye line, as well as facial skin hydration.

Restoration of normal tissue volume as a result of the HYA-STIM 3-Peptide formulation (Campiche et al. 2020 Fig5c). According to the evidence presented – the use of cosmetics containing HYA-STIM 3-Peptide allows the skin to restore its elasticity and firmness. Importantly, these effects are the result of enhancing the natural regenerative processes occurring in the skin.
